Description Historically there have been four major revolutions in education. The first took place when education of the young shifted from parent to teachers and schools eg. the Rabbinical schools and Muslim schools in which instructions were previously tribal and religious, and based on oral communication and memory work. Secondly, the written word superseded oral instruction in that it became an aid to memory, and a source of stored information as knowledge expanded.
