Description The kerygmatic structure as method in eliminating moralism in preaching Moralism, although an old fallacy, is still alive in modern preaching. In itself, moralism has an ill-fated effect on the evangelical character of preaching. This paper is an attempt to identify the main source of moralism in modern preaching. From the results it appears that moralism manifests itself once the evangelical imperative is preached in a legalistic manner, without the theological indicative fundamental to every imperative in the Bible. In order to overcome this problem, a homiletical modus operandi has to be identified. The hypothesis of this study is that the evangelical kerygma has an inherent structure consisting of the indicatives and promises of God, which leads the believer to try to achieve the imperative. Once this procedure is followed in preparing a sermon, the danger of moralism is eliminated.
