Subject — Aytoniaceae; Hepaticae. Mannia capensis; M. capensis var. pallida; Marchantiales, southern Africa
Description A taxonomic account of the genus, Mannia. and its only local representative. M. capensis. together with its distribution in southern Africa as currently known, is given. Mannia capensis var. pallida S.W. Arnell is not recognized here as a distinct variety, since the ‘sulphuric yellow' spores by which Arnell (1963) segregated it, can be ascribed to immaturity.
