Description Three new species of Fossombronia from the winter rainfall area of the Northern and Western Cape are described:  F. hyalorhiza, which has colourless rhizoids and is fairly widespread, but not common; F marindae, which has purple rhi­zoids, very attractive, highly ornamented spores and is so far known from a single locality only and F. monticola.  which also has purple rhizoids, with spores irregularly ridged, often partly areolate, and is quite common but fairly variable.
