| Description | The articles on church discipline of the Reformed Churches in South Africa (GKSA) were founded almost exclusively on Calvin’s interpretation of Matthew 18:15 ff. Calvin, however, did not have manuscripts at his disposal which could enable him to do justice to the harmony of scriptural evidence for church discipline. He used texts in Matthew 18:15 as well as in Luke 17:3 which include the words "against you". With more manuscripts available today this interpertation of Matthew 18:15 should perhaps be reconsidered. Furthermore, development in the structural analysis of Scripture makes it necessary to re-examine the foundation which Calvin laid and the tradition which has been built on it. | |
