Description Typhoid and paratyphoid fever are acute, life-threatening febrile illnesses caused by systemic infection with the bacterium Salmonella enterica. Nineteen cases were reported in South Africa in 2016. We report on two cases of bacteraemic invasive S. typhi with fluoroquinolone resistance.
