Description | The stress required to reach the breaking point of trabecular bone of the femur neck of patients who obtained a femur neck fracture, was found to be 60% less than that required to reach the same result in patients with hip osteoarthritis. The compression strength of trabecular bone showed a reasonable correlation (r = 0,58) with the relative density of this bone. Analyses of the inclination of the stress-strain curves, and the determination of the elasticity modulus of trabecular bone showed that the bone of the fracture group was 30-60% more elastic than that of the osteoarthritic group. Both strength and elasticity may thus play a role in the evolution of this fracture. | |
