Description Substitution of SiO2 with ThO2 in the ternary sodium borate system was found to produce phase separable glasses. Heat treatment of these glasses resulted in separation into at least two different phases. The soluble sodium borate-enriched phase was then leached out leaving a ThO2-rich skeleton. The structure of the leached material was mostly crystalline. Die vervanging van SiO2 met ThO2 in die ternêre Na2O-B2O3-SiO2-sisteem het glassoorte gelewer wat deur geskikte hittebehandeling ’n faseskeiding in ten minste twee fases ondergaan. Die optosbare natriumboraatverrykte fase kan uitgeloog word om ’n poreuse ThO2-ryke raamwerk agter te laat wat digter gesinter kan word.
