| Description | The energy content of relevant materials and world energy resources are briefly discussed. A short review is given of fundamental aspects of uranium enrichment and the disposal of radio-active material as part of the conventional nuclear fuel cycle. Alternative energy production systems for the RSA are suggested. These are based on the spectrum of choices presented by the nuclear energy continuum of nuclear fission, fusion and spallation particle accelerator systems. Die energie-inhoud van bepaalde materiale en energiereserwes van die wêreld word kortliks bespreek. ’n Oorsig van ’n tipiese kernklowingsbrandstofsiklus word gegee, met klem op bepaalde fundamentele aspekte van uraanverryking en die wegruiming van radioaktiewe afval. Die huidige kernkragsituasie en moontlike toekomstige lendense van kragvoorsiening in die RSA word behandel. Alternatiewe kragvoorsieningslelsels, inagnemende die moontlikhede wat die “kernkontinuum” van kernklowing-, kernversmelting- en deeltjieversnellingstelsels bied, word voorgestel. | |
