Description In hierdie studie word die gedrag van 'n furfurielalkohol-polimeerbeton (FAPB) se vervormingseienskappe tydens en direk na polimerisasie bespreek. Die vervormingsvergelykings vir gewone Portlandsementbeton word as model gebruik, terwyl die nodige aanpassing aan hierdie vergelykings gemaak word om die effek van polimerisasiekrimping in berekening te bring. Eksperimentele werk is gedoen waartydens die materiaalmonsters vry van eksterne spannings aan verskillende temperatuurtoestande blootgestel is, waarna die vervormingsgedrag bestudeer is. Hierdie wisselende temperatuurtoestande is 'n simulasie van wat in die praktyk aangetref word, wanneer ’n materiaal afwisselend aan hoë en lae temperature blootgestel word. Resultate toon ’n duidelike variërende vervormingskromme vir elke temperatuurtoestand, wat besliste implikasies vir die lewensduurte van die materiaal inhou. In this study attention is given to the deformation performance of furfuryl alcohol polymer concrete during and directly after polymerisation. The deformation equations of ordinary Portland cement concrete are used as a model, while the appropriate adjustment is made to bring the effect of polymerisation shrinkage into consideration. Experimental work was done to deter­mine the deformation characteristics of material samples which were exposed to various temperature conditions, while being kept free from external stresses. These conditions of varying temperature are simulations of practical applications, where the material is exposed to high and low temperatures on a cyclic basis. Results show a different deformation curve for each of the temperature conditions, which will have a definite impact on the lifecycle of the material.
