| Description | In this article we discuss some aspects of nonlinear functional analysis. It included reviews of Banach’s contraction theorem, Schauder’s fixed point theorem, globalising techniques and applications of homotopy theory to nonlinear functional analysis. The author emphasises that fundamentally new ideas are required in order to achieve a better understanding of phenomena which contain both nonlinear and definite infinite dimensional features. Die artikel bestaan uit ’n bespreking van sommige aspekte van die nie-lineêre funksionaalanalise. Dit sluit in ’n oorsig van Banach se samestrekkingstelling, Schauder se dekpuntstelling, die globatiseringsprobleem en toepassing van homotopieteorie op nie-lineêre funksionaalanalise. Die beginsels word geillustreer aan die hand van voorbeelde. Die skrywer beklemtoon dat fundamentele nuwe idees ontwikkel moet word om nie-lineêre verskynsels wat ook van ’n wesenlike oneindig dimensionale aard is, te begryp. | |
