Description An attempt is made to explain certain expressive impairments in the speech of an Ndebele speaking aphasic in terms of a transformational grammar. The impairment is eventually located in a part of the lexicon, but owing to the standard view of linguistic competence, this explanation poses problems which at present resist resolution.
