Description | ‘Liegfabriek’: text linguistic linking patternsWithin the framework of Text Linguistics it can be argued that linguistic patterns play a role in the structuring and generating of meaning. In the first instance this article investigates the ‘sociolinguistic fibre' in the short story "Liegfabriek'' by Etienne van Heerden. Attention is focused on the characteristics of advertising language and it is indicated how, from a sociolinguistic perspective, advertising language is used to generate different meanings in a literary text. Secondly the linguistic mechanisms employed in establishing structural and semantic unity as well as thematic continuity within the text are investigated. Finally it is argued that an investigation of the linguistic fibre of a literary text sheds light on the complex entity called a literary text. | |
