Description The shift of attention from the Bible text to the recipient in modern homiletics is i.a. due to the deep influence of some 'auxiliary sciences' on homiletics, especially linguistics, with its reception theory. The effect of this paradigm shift is illustrated by means of some examples from modern sermons and sermon-sketches. The incisive character of the paradigm shift becomes apparent when set against the background of text-oriented homiletics of traditional reformed theology. Finally, some dogmatic and confessional pitfalls of modern homiletics are briefly mentioned.
