| Description | Many homileticians are of the opinion that the practice of preaching is in a crisis. In this regard the following questions are asked: Is preaching still effective? Is the preacher really able to reach modern man and is the monological nature of preaching still valid in a modern world? This article focuses on these questions and the premise of the discussion is that modern man is influenced by his context to such an extent that he experiences preaching as ineffective. To prove this statement, the article pays attention to the history of preaching, the crisis of contemporary preaching and the authority of preaching according to the Bible. In view of this information the above-mentioned questions are discussed from a Reformational perspective with special reference to the quest for renewal in preaching. | |
