Description Development is one of the most important topics for discussion and action in the Third World. It is however an extremely controversial subject. Taking as point of departure the nowadays generally accepted notion that all development must actually benefit the people concerned in a wholistic way, this article attempts to contribute to the discussion by criticising some general notions and indicating some of the pitfalls in development thinking.
