Description Ecumenical word-wide diaconia and the lessons we can learn from it Since 1948 the involvement of churches in ecumenical diaconia has become one of the most significant trends of modern church history. The most important agent of protestant Christianity in this field is the Commission of Inter-Church Aid, Refugee and World Service of the World Council of Churches (CICARWS). A brief look at the history of CICARWS shows that a shift of emphasis took place from charity to justice, from individual to community and from development to revolutionary changes of social, political and economic structures.
