Description Bridging the gap between God and man: something divine or human? This article highlights some aspects of Heyns’ view of Scripture. It is stated that Heyns was so overwhelmed by God’s revelation that the ‘divine’ element of Scripture was overemphasized while the ‘human’ side was neglected. This one-sided articulation of the divine prevented Heyns from either incorporating or addressing the results of critical Bible study. It is my contention that dogmatic reflection on Scripture can only be useful to the Biblical scholar if the results of critical scholarship are taken into account. This point is illustrated in the last section of this article.
