Title Nitrous oxide in 2010: who will have the last laugh? (Part 3)

Creator de Vasconcellos, Kim

Subject — Nitrous oxide
Description In the first two parts of this series, the basic science of nitrous oxide (N2O) was reviewed and some of its claimed risks and benefits were analysed. In this, the third and final instalment, the remaining risks and benefits will be assessed and the alternatives to nitrous oxide will be evaluated. It will be shown that many of the claimed adverse effects of nitrous oxide either do not exist or are overstated. Nitrous oxide is a versatile agent with many potential benefits during all phases of anaesthesia.
