Successful implementation is facilitated by strong leadership, employee engagement, and robust technology infrastructure. Effective KM positively impacts service delivery, decision-making, efficiency, and innovation. Conclusion: The review underscored the vital role of KM in maximising organisational efficiency and the need to incorporate KM practices into local government structures. It provided valuable insights for practitioners and policymakers to develop and implement effective KM strategies.Contribution: This study offers a comprehensive examination of KM in local governments worldwide, highlighting its importance in enhancing performance and service delivery. It identified best practices, challenges, and areas for future research, contributing to the advancement of KM understanding in local government contexts.
