Title | Early detection of ototoxicity by high-frequency audiometry: A case study
Creator | Voogt, Gustav R.
Description | The effect of an ototoxic aminoglycoside antibiotic (tobramycin) on the hearing acuity of an adult Black female cardiac patient was evaluated with a new type of high-frequency audiometer. Results indicated the effectivity of this audiometer for the early detection of ototoxicity. The possibility of higher susceptibility ototoxic damage in Blacks due to a higher concentration of melanin in the inner ear is discussed.
